On Jeremy Vine yesterday they were also talking about Welsh Unis, where residents on Wales pay nothing and those from EU countries pay nothing, except for the English who have to pay.
Sounds like racism to me

The power of apathy... perhaps those closer to home have all they need in life and don't require a working goverment anymore so why bother, or perhaps our goverment has become less and less like a democracy, it makes sense to me you voted for one person and now your getting another, why try and contest that sort of control when you can hide under the cosy arms apathy instead?

"This is all thanks to the generous English taxpayers who subsidise the Scots. They receive £1,500 more a head in public spending every year than people living south of the border. Even more infuriating, the Scottish MPs regularly vote to penalise English pensioners and students, in the full knowledge that their constituents won't be affected."

"In Scotland, however, it is different. And this is the really galling part. While the young and the elderly now have to fend for themselves in England and Wales, in Scotland, they are still stuck in a lovely 1980s time warp. Scottish students will soon receive a free university education and from 2011 their loans will be wiped out and maintenance grants re-introduced; the British taxpayers will be footing the £2 billion bill. Those aged 16 to 18 are also entitled to a third off all bus and train travel.
Scottish pensioners are still living in a Thatcherite world where their care homes are subsidised and they are not forced to sell off the family house to make ends meet. Elderly Scots benefit from free personal care to help those over 65 with feeding, dressing and washing."Tags: None
