We used to do a similar trick on the M25 - run across the carriageway & put the six pack on the central reservation etc. etc.

Well coming from South Africa, I haven't been necessarily chased, but we did play Dare in the Veldt where one of us would run as far as we could in a lion area and place a six pack of beers on the floor and run back, then the next guy would have to run in pick them up and run as far as he wanted to and out them down for the next guy.
