Tell the locals that the feral chickens taste like chicken, problem solved, BBQs all round. They can't be too difficult to catch, especially at night as they roost in the lower branches of the trees. Job as they say "Jobbed"!

maybe they need to start feeding foxes? It will get the number down quickly.
