I would suggest that you come up with a better first post, Gricer.

    First Day Behaviours

Hello all - I’m a long term permanent employee about to take my first steps into the world of contracting. Next week, in fact, it’s all a bit daunting but exciting at the same time I guess. I have a bit of an odd question but one that I think is important.

What can you do on your first day to create the right impression as a contractor? I feel that you should in some way set out your stall, as it were, rather than taking a more passive approach as you may when starting a new job as a permie. So maybe use my initiative to go round and introduce myself to everyone, tell them who I am, what my role is etc, dress nicely and , above all, look keen and up for the challenge.

Then again, I don’t want to over egg the pudding so maybe I should be a bit more chilled. I don’t know - how do you guys approach your first day in a new contract?
