The issue is Boris and his government cannot say anything in a clear way plus bring restrictions in at the right time. They think people should rely on commonsense then complain about people "flexing" the rules.

The Welsh and Scottish leaders also have an issue bringing restrictions in at the right time, but at least you can understand what they are saying and they don't tell you to rely on commonsense.
The official guidance was clear at the time. Johnson just wanted to give a different message. But it turns out that the virus doesn’t much care about boosterism.

Boris Johnson says go back to work and kick-start Britain’s recovery

Boris Johnson told the nation last night to go back to work, saying that “people should try to lead their lives more normally”.
The prime minister said that the stay-at-home message had outlived its usefulness. Workers should think about going back to the office, he added.

Shifting his emphasis in an effort to boost the reopening of the economy, he said it was “very important that people should be going back to work if they can now”.

“I think everybody has sort of taken the ‘stay at home if you can’ – I think we should now say, well, ‘go back to work if you can.’

“Because I think it’s very important that people should try to lead their lives more normally. I want to see more people feeling confident to use the shops, use the restaurants, and get back into work – but only if we all follow the guidance.”

The official government advice, which was updated on Thursday, says people should stay at home as much as possible, and work from home if they can.

When I see a Labour PM who isn't or wasn't a complete failure, then I might have an opinion. Until then, any Labour leaders can be safely ignored as irrelevant. Especially the unelected ones.
