Just talking raw acceptance rates. Since most apply to multiple schools i bet the number applying who get accepted to at least 1 med school is above 50%...
Now if you mean out of total population going to University in general well then you can say that about a bunch of degrees... Of course it's a specialized area only a small sub segment of the population will even apply to go to med school but your <1% figure is just wrong.
