Sized up for the most likely option. What's more egregious is the lack of hospital beds.Originally posted by AtW View PostSo they sized up for the easy option...

Lol, feel the fury man.
He's not spreadying doom he's e-quoting a FACT that the stockpile was reduced by 40% due to austerity.
If you're going to love your Daily Mail, you have to tolerate it's yang - The Guardian.
The answer is "FFS shutup, are we supposed to be ready for a pandemic?" - Answer maybe not, but shaving that 40% off the stockpile , under the premise that its unnessary spending, after you've dropped over a trillion on propping up the private sector in the last 15 years - does look a little silly now doesnt it?
But just rage as if people are making something of nothing.
The best thing about making mistakes, is having the opportunity to LEARN from them, not deny they ever happened.

I think testing capability should be readily available for any of the detectable pathogens - like Germany got, and PPE for emergency plus local quickly deployable capability to make more in case of pandemic (when demand for such stuff will be through the roof).Originally posted by LondonManc View PostAtW thinks we should be scaled up to repel Hippo Aids, Squirrel Herpes and every other possible pandemic that may or may not occur. What a prick.
Is it too much to expect this country to have as good healthcare as Germany, this isn’t 3rd world country, right?

So they sized up for the easy option, at best - obviously to save some money in area few people will check at the time.

I heard that our stockpile is sized for pandemic flu, where the vaccine can generally be produced relatively quickly. Swine flu vaccine for example was available in the Autumn of 2009 after it broke out in Spring of the same year.
Coronavirus is the wildcard that will teach us a very important lesson. Think of how long your stash/stockpile/savings/warchest needs to last and then at least double it.
