this is one of the reasons that gives Covid a more sinister / conspiracy theory thought. Do wealthy/influential people around the world want to drive the markets down on purpose, so they can move in and profit later. Just like 2008. I was feeling that a lot of shares were over valued before the crash.

Covid might be a longer-term boon to economies
Capitalism relies on growth, but growth in a finite setting cannot be perpetual. Ergo at some point capitalism must falter as growth reaches its limits.
So what better from that standoint than a natural disaster to undo years of growth, and clear dead wood, so it can resume its upward path subsequently?
It's like a forest fire - New shoots spring up in no time, and before you know it the forest is as vigorous as ever.
