Yes, and they're still going through it. It's not exactly related to the original post, which I see as an anti-vegan, anti-vegetarian message, but rather to do with maintaining the purity of the language. Hence instead of computer, they have l'ordinateur. For user, they have the execrable "l'utilisateur" etc. I quite like tölécharger for "to download" though. Germany has a similar language institute, but if you have a look through Duden, they surrendered to the supremecy of the English language quite a while ago. Downloadieren. Such is the zeitgeist.
I suppose up stream it probably is the same, or at least comes from the same mindset that language can be controlled at a state level. Maybe it's because English is such a hybrid language we lost caring on this stuff 950 years ago but i don't think the consumer needs to be protected from the usage of vegetarian haggis and I think(hope) the UK would laugh at such a statist intervention.

The French are generally morons, on a perpetual downward spiral economically and socially, yet sausages get priority in the legislature.

If the state has to step in and legislate to protect morons from thinking a creme egg did no come out of a chicken then we need to consider some kind of genocide to give the human race a chance to survive another 100 years.
