As a side project you could look at making a robot also able to aid with the pollination. Would be a bigger money spinner if the decline of bees continues.

Absolutely, and it would probably be comparatively easier than trying to identify and grab moving caterpillars and beetles etc.

The time can't be far off when a practical robot capable of detecting and bagging agricultural pests in greenhouses and even open fields or vineyards etc can be made and sold for a modest amount.

Actually, I've asked here before, but received no serious replies, and not over-optimistic that this time will be any different ..

For example, it looks like this open-source Yolo project might be adequate for the detection part with suitable training.

If anyone with electronics and mechanical hardware experience is interested then by all means PM me and we can start discussing it.
