I don't think I've really had a best job. Some contracts have been good because of the people. Some interesting work, but nothing that stands out.
I think it's partly my attitude that working for someone else is crap.
One perm job, the owner, on the company TV channel (yep believe it or not) decided to address the staff for xmas from his holiday home in Spain. He said something along the lines of "thank you all for being part of my story".
And that's the problem, when you work for someone else it's their story, their wealth, their freedom you are contributing to - i hate that.

Worked for small company - just 10 of us. We'd all worked for larger company before so all knew each other - one of the guys had set up on his own.
Office was crappy but it was like going to work with all your mates. There was hard work to do at time but sometimes we just played Star Wars Battlegrounds all day.....
Unfortunately, went bust after a year or so but it was fun while it lasted.

Ignoring cash - what has been your best ever jobs?
I think my best ever job was when I was 19, doing on-site and 2nd Line support for a local contract. Used to support a bunch of sites - we had 2 weeks on-site driving around and 1 week in the office. Literally 10 minutes door to door commute, the work was the right balance between interesting stuff to fix (At the time anyway) and piece of piss, met lots of people (and, uh, 'met' one or two) and it was in the days before smart phones so I was left to my own devices when on the road.
Absolutely no stress whatsoever, rarely didn't leave on time, and spent a considerable amount of time on long lunches and "breaks" because I could beast through the job list and there was no tech to give me any more to do unless I got back to the office with enough time. Get back at 4ish and most of the time they'd tell to you just knock off.
So, what about you?Last edited by vwdan; 15 February 2018, 12:45.Tags: None
