Not Skype for Business therefore not related to company provided instant messaging.

Not sure how it all plays out with employment contract clauses stating that all company provided accounts activity is monitored for security reasons etc.

Anyway, not being able to decouple personal life during work is one thing. Use the company provided e-mail/chat is beyond lazy/stupid.

    Abuse of company property?

Use of company property for non work related items?

It is one thing not letting someone check their own personal e-mails/messages

it is completely different using company mail/chat for personal

Oh and this is the most interesting part of the story -

The reporting of the January ruling by some news outlets led to criticism from the Council of Europe, which oversees the European court. Elements of the British press in particular were accused of whipping up a “misinformed media storm” by producing “inaccurate scare stories”.

A spokesman for the body said: “Certain parts of the UK media sometimes have trouble getting their facts right when covering ‘Europe’. It’s understandable, to a certain extent. Europe’s institutions are complicated, journalists cover lots of different issues and they work to tight deadlines.”
