Reading that reminded me of the testimony of the janitor at the WTC; it was shocking to hear that the resident WTC first responders
were the first to leave building and took the keys to the locked doors with them. It was left to the janitor to unlock doors and show the fire brigade where to go.

Indeed they were nice normal people and they got screwed.

Only 14 flats in Grenfell Tower were not in council hands - two were owned by housing associations and 12 had private owners. One of those was on the 21st floor.

I've told people in real life and on here that's not how council housing works in London.

Everything is about location in London. So a flat on a tulip estate can easily be rented out in the right location.

1. You can prove that? Or do they redirect most of their mail or have mail sent to another address despite being registered at that one. So in 2010 they got a council property and registered their Mobile Phone, car, Energy, employment & so on there. In 2014 they move in with their girlfriend / boyfriend and redirect the most pressing mail or register at a new address?

2. OK so if you suspect its being sub let you can send a registered mail to the house and check the signature. Turn up to the benefit office in 3 days or we sanction you.

3. If you have had friends living 5 to a room in a B&B being attacked by other residents a Haven style mobile home / Chalet site with security guards & daily mandatory classes would be very attractive. We are talking about those that have been unable to get a job in 2 years.

There's this large ship just docked at Portsmouth. I'm sure it has space for a few refugees to live in? Air conditioned, sea breezes, three square meals a day. It's not any use for anything else at the moment. ...

and once the refugees have all settled in, the ship could quietly up anchor, sail back to the Med, and drop them back off on the Libyan coast!

Finally the problem of making social housing only for those who are poor is that you turn them into ghettos like the US projects. Traditionally in the UK social housing housed a mixed section of society including the local doctor. This raised the aspirations of many people.

Should be able to write those reports in a few hours and that is two of the big abuses dealt with.

Sales of council houses should now stop except at full price for redevelopment.

We should map all employees that are receiving in work benefits to their employers those that have large numbers should be approached and encouraged to pay a living wage.


Those who are long term unemployed in expensive boroughs should be moved out to cheaper ones and projects to create jobs started in the destination.

Create temporary housing that will allow us to house people in decent homes on secure sites not pay ridiculous fees for inadequate B&Bs. In the temporary homes sites set up creches & training schools to retrain those unemployed. There are plenty of old MOD sites suitable for this.

For the expensive homes built as an overseas investment charge a significant non occupancy charge. The owners then have a few choices come over or AirBnB for X weeks and spend their money in the UK, Rent it out to locals and pay tax in UK or pay the charge that is to be spent on building cheaper local housing.

Not just singling out Khan , Bojo was nearly as bad.

When you decide to build it factor in infrastructure as well, more people=more roads+Schools+Hospitals etc.

Or they could use the money they would waste giving some retired judge an income for the next 20 years on building a few more homes?
