I'd just carry on with your plans. It's fair to reassess this sort of trip when you're potentially taking your family into danger, but your biggest threat is probably driving down the M4 westwards, especially the first 50 miles or so. Once you're well past Slough and reading then the number of idiots seems to drop significantly, strangely enough.

Sitting in an office in London this morning everything seems really quite normal. Ok, my train was on time, and that's pretty unusual, but otherwise...

Our dear leaders say we should carry on regardless. Easy for them to say when security for them has been doubled.

Is this a case of "enough is enough" or "we are all in this together"?

Mean is a statistical measure (as is median and mode). You said you didn't want to be a statistic, so I suggested you stop being mean.

I've got an 8 year old TomTom without updates, last two times it took us from Gatwick up the motorway and then the old roads into central London and right through Brixton past Brixton underground station.

    That was fun

If you're driving in the smoke, don't cross the median or put the satnav in shortest distance mode.

yes that's the thing, I grew up with the IRA threat, dad because of his job had to look under his car every evening in the railway station car park and make sure there wasn't a surprise waiting - it was normal

when you live with it, in the thick of it every day you don't think about

when you are away from it, then it becomes a worry, that that one time you go somewhere you're one of the unlucky ones

so yes I see both sides of the argument

    Milan.

Some of the cheaper thieves still use push bikes which they have nicked.

And you're right about the muggers, the ones on scooters are the latest thing. If you have a flash mobile, don't use it while out walking, nip into a doorway or something.

I'm actually more worried about driving my car is some other European countries than the UK but recent trips have seen more hostile gestures made, in particular WVM...

Central London is gorgeous it's unique and for my children who live in a quiet village it's an eye opener

So no doubts about staying in cogent garden

If you love it then go for it! I personally wouldn't, given the choice I'd pick somewhere a little way away from the tourist centres, but still walkable. Hope you have a great time, Beansey!!

You are more likely to die driving to the airport than you are to be killed in a terrorist attack.

    Don't give in to hate.
