Until the A4174 gets upgraded to be part of a proper orbital motorway with the M5 and M4, the problems will continue. Going in on the M32 is fine if you want the immediate centre round the shopping area; other than that, the times I've been to Bristol, it's horrendous. Lovely city, but a nightmare to get round.

If they really wanted to be green then why not look at a tram/metro system?Originally posted by CoolCat View Postyes elected mayor in Bristol seems to be a big mistake. all sorts of nonsense ideas being used.
Access into Bristol from the South and West is atrocious

Its only going to get worse when they finish covering the airfield in Filton with houses. Luckily I'm heading out of Bris and not in most days

I can also follow the Whitchurch Way to Arnos Vale. It's just the bit between there and StW that has some hairy bits.Originally posted by malvolio View PostFrom StW have a look at going up Romney Avenue through Cheswick Village. That will get you to the big roundabout by Abbey Wood.
There are some real "muggers paradise" style underpasses around Easton, Laurence Hill etc.

It appears there's a route that is cycle friendly in places - at least from the yurts of St Werberghs up to Stoke Gifford. I could park the car in Whitchurch and cycle in from there.
I don't fancy the bit along the St Philips Causeway though

worked in Bristol a lot, but always lived in the hotel next to the client site during the week so its only a short stroll into the office.

"PIP" might want to shave that bum firstOriginally posted by SueEllen View PostWear a bright pink jacket, have a pink bag/panniers and a blonde long haired wig under your cycle helmet. Alternatively have see through black cycling shorts/tights and keep your bum of the saddle.
That way you will be given plenty of room.

Oooh! Good thinking.Originally posted by malvolio View PostOK, take the Virgin train for Brum and points north from BTM to BPW and change there.
Unfortunately my train departs BPW at 8:08.
The Virgin service gets in at 8:09

OK, take the Virgin train for Brum and points north from BTM to BPW and change there.Originally posted by Pip in a Poke View PostI'm heading the other way.
The rationale behind using BPW is that I can get a 125 express service rather than the overcrowded cattle trucks that ply the route between BTM & South Wales.
It is also normally empty in both directions.

I had 6 months of driving cross country to get to Bristol Parkway every morning and then getting the train into the centre. Fun times.
