You really should have paid attention in school, and if you had done you would know that the Germans (in various guises, e.g. West Germany, unified post 1990 etc) are not permitted to partake in military action except in a defensive capacity. It's in their constitution, but you only live there, so how the hell should you be expected to know.

When it's suggested by the Italians, it really is time to panic.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostExplain why a EU army is a bad thing?
Serious answer, it's basically a bit like everything else run by the EU. Doomed to failure. Look at the migration crisis. Who's sorting that out? Everybody else, and not very well. The EU has been conspicuous by its total absence of anything constructive, on this and virtually everything else that actually matters. Basically, they're spending all their time and effort going after companies who have certain tax arrangements with certain countries (which are technically legal), and ignoring the big important stuff.
I'd like to invite the EU commissioners to a brewery, just to prove my point that they couldn't organise a pissup in one. And you want them to run our armies? You are beyond deluded.

No, it would be absolutely nothing like that. If you can't work that out for yourself perhaps you should logout and let a responsible adult take over your CUK account?Originally posted by scooterscot View PostWould that be a bit like the British army sending troops to northern Ireland?

Suppose the Greek people refused all the conditions set down by Brussels. And suppose the Greek government rebelled against Brussels. And suppose there was an EU army controlled by Brussels. Do you seriously think that Brussels wouldn't send in their army to sort out a rebellion in one of their enclaves? Or would they call ghost busters?
If you don't realise the ultimate outcome of all this is a single eu republic with no nationality other than eu then you're asleep.if the Scots people want that then go for it. May the Force be with you.

A EU army is a natural step towards this progress. EU countries are a lot smaller today as the rest of the world grows crazy. An EU army would carry much more weight and possible save money in the long run.

Lets see Putin walks into the Ukraine and the EU need to change their trousers. Next time they will need their troops to change their trousers as well.Originally posted by original PM View Postand how long before all vessel states of glorious German Union must send all second born sons for military duty
the problem with an EU army would be either
1) It would never do anything because all member states would need a say in what it was going to do
2) It becomes another German army
there could be no in-between!Last edited by vetran; 9 September 2016, 13:41.

So considering Germany are part of NATO and NATO sanctioned most of those it would appear some countries are not pulling their weight

Even if you feel European most people sign up to fight for King and country, the draw for many is to serve their country, I am not sure how many soldiers want to die for some other country they have no knowledge or affinity with and that goes for all countries not just the UK
