Maybe there really should be a GB team so they can go for gold in the Olympics. The home nations aren't good enough on their own.

Glad it was a relatively poor performance by England v 'Holland'. So tired of all the "this time we can do it" hype as they qualify easily for a tournament, then struggle to get out of the group before getting knocked out on penalties in the quarters, if they're lucky.
This team actually does have some talent compared to the previous so-called "golden generation". Even in yesterday's match they showed they could take apart, at least once, a Nether Regions team which was well drilled at defending. The weakness is letting in easy goals.
That weakness isn't going to get fixed by the Euros though.

Pays Bas - the low/back country.
Hole land, the back side country.
Nether lands. The back side country.

It's the bottom of Europe, by altitude and name.

Quite - but most of them think that UK, GB, England and London are synonymous - and that Scotland, Wales etc are suburbs of London.

I would argue that "Holland" is very often, albeit erroneously, used interchangeably with "The Netherlands".
"England" on the other hand is hardly ever used interchangeably with "GB" or "UK".

I beleive this was explained by the commentators during the match, in football terms the Dutch have always been referred to as Holland WRT to sports for some reason, hence that fixture is billed as 'England vs Holland'
