Rise of the Robots is frightening.
The power of computers to think for themselves is chilling
You can't help but fear the end of life as we know it.
Barclaycard have installed a neural network that checks for credit card fraud. It formulates its own rules and learns! It's only a matter of days now before we feel the impact.
Oh, sorry. I've just remembered... That was 20 years ago

If robots start doing all the crap jobs, then maybe people can start spending more time on poetry, arts etc?

sad but likely, I remember huge factories closing down as they were offshored now automation is coming. Remind me why we import half a million people a year?

Many are lower paid jobs, although higher paid if you are coming from Poland, Romania etc.
The increased living wage will pull even more of these workers in the coming years, attracted by the higher wages.
The amount contributed to the UK economy is doubted, they tend tube lower paid so pay little tax, many also remit spare cash back home so they don't spend it in the UK economy and they can claim tax credits etc, so cost the taxpayer lots of cash. Added to this they put pressure on the public services, health, roads, schools etc.
More should also be done to get the hardcore layabouts to work , actually remove benefits if they refuse.
