The week before the first valentine's day with my (now) wife she said "You'd better not have gotten me an ironing board".
Now, me being an understanding guy, knows that women often use reverse psychology.
...so I got her an ironing board.
It went back a few days later due to a dent in it.
White goods/kitchen/tools presents have continued ever since.
The first valentine after we moved into our house, I bought her a fridge.
She frequently gets new pots/pans
She got a pressure washer 2 years ago (which now needs a replacement hose, so that was an easy one for this year)
I also email her one of these every year to her work, instruction her to print it off...
Manage her expectations, then surprise her every so often - take her to the local pub for a beer when the rugby's on, something nice and romantic like that.
