One of my friends lives not far from you, off Plodder Lane.

Exactly this. I pick the fluff out of my belly button, and smoke it.

They never heard of Skype, Lync or some other tech?

If all the permies are at home and are not contactable, client deserves to go bust.

Amazing what this one trait can achieve.

"Just got your email, I though rather than writing a long reply, I'd give you a quick call....a couple of things....firstly I don't have access to the file share, who do I need to speak to......can I pop over to your desk and we can copy it somewhere I have access to?"

Sorted in 5 mins, project progress back on track, no need to post pointless crap on CUK.

Try it, become Suity MKII and see how it feels.

    It's not you, it's contracting.

New project is coming up, internal staff know it's going to be a crap project and make sure they have something else to do. Only option is to hire contractors.

Been on some myself, company sold Unix application to windows company.
Project: Integrate application into clients environment ( approx 6-8 weeks).
PM: I prefer Borland, so get set-up on your machine.
Me: The application is written for Unix.
PM: Ok just re-write it then.
Me: We only have 6 weeks.
    PM: You better get started.
