There are lots of reports that internet connectivity is what people check first so you may have to sell to mature technically illiterate folk.

How about downloading and zipping up the entire internet whilst at work? That way you can peruse it at your leisure.
Alternatively create your own rival internet for you and your neighbours over WiFi.

Satellite? (can be iffy, can be expensive)
Microwave? (longer range than wifi, can be very expensive, but if there are several buildings involved, you could set up a neighbourhood one)

Anyone not in a fibre area who knows of any reasonably priced options for super fast broadband that don't involve waiting for the dynamic and oft praised BT to get their finger out?
