I actually got a PR visa granted just under 3 years ago with the intention of working summer in the UK and summer in Oz. Their economy though is catching the tail end of the 2008 FC though, which survived back then on the asian commodity demand which has since nose-dived.
The appreciation of the Ozzie $ against a bucket of other world currencies isn't helping given the requirement to import most of their requirements and the impact is being felt most by the working age demographic. No surprise then that those who don't need to work aren't feeling the pinch too much...as long as the car doesn't need replacing (most come from Japan) and the mortgage is paid off.....
