On a financial level, we are so deeply in debt we can't afford to be the worlds refuge, you can blame Gordon Brown for it but we are where we are

And ith the worlds population continuing to grow, and finite natural resources, is there going to be a long term solution globally ?

I can't see anyone proposing anything that isn't just a temporary sticking plaster

In the black and white world of your average propeller head then it does. in the real world the UK is effectively still and Island and therefore difficult to get into

The French really can't be arsed to deal with them.

The UK has to step up.

We agree to take a fair share of asylum seekers from a central EU pool as previously suggested.

They will be pre qualified so we know what we are getting. We can give them leave to remain renewed regularly subject to behavior and withdrawn when their country is deemed safe. You let a mate sleep on your sofa when his wife kicks him out you don't put him on the deeds to your house when he has kipped there 6 months.

Anyone claiming Asylum in the UK will be treated as an illegal alien, locked up & summarily deported to either home country or last safe country, failing that Brussels. If the EU wants to be in charge then let them get on with it!

Anyone trafficking people can go to any unsafe country that wants them.

Anyone attacking lorries etc in Calais is a suspected terrorist and needs instant repatriation.

we need to stop the draw factors otherwise the whole thing will continue and economic migrants will die of the Greek & Italian coast.

Northern Ireland borders the EU country of the Republic of Ireland!

Actually I think the Falklands are an overseas dependency or some such crown protectorate.

Maybe the French should pop the Calais folk on a boat to Cork and then they can cross the border into Northern Ireland. [emoji8]

Technically you are right but your point has no bearing on practicalities unless the migrants can find their way to Ireland
