I got hit by a council gritter. Entirely their fault. Their insurance paid. My premiums went up as 'statistically I'm more likely to have another accident', this was 8 years ago. Haven't had so much as a prang since. Bastards.

My cheapest renewal quote doubled after a prang, as you now become a very high risk, the no claims protection means tulip, I still have full no claims discount, but every quote is double the ones pre-prang.
And you have to put it on every fricking quote for about the next 5 years, with dates and details.
Just get some garage quotes and fix it or live with it.

Get on Compare Car Service & MOT Deals | MyCarNeedsA.comOriginally posted by EternalOptimist View PostThe missus has pranged her car, by driving into a Tesco trolley
would it be cheaper to pay for the repair or claim on the insurance.
she asked me, and I don't have a clue
Put the details on and see what quotes you get. You dont have to take the lowest quote either.

What if it's Tesco's trolley, Tesco's car park and Tesco Insurance?Originally posted by I just need to test it View PostAren't those signs simply to cover Tesco (or whoever) in the event that shopper A damages shopper B's property? It doesn't (surely!) give Tesco carte blanche to leave their trolleys littering the car park.
Was the accident in the car park, I wonder?
I bet they don't do car hire

They will just point to a sign saying "no responsibility for damage in htis car park"Originally posted by I just need to test it View PostTesco would probably want to settle out of court for the damage caused by their errant trolley.
Call some ambulance chasers. Tell them your wife is suffering PTSD.
As no one on here has seen the car or the damage its pretty hard to say how much it will cost to fix, also given we don't know the details of your policy and the excess detailed, I will just go for the stock answer
"What does your accountant say?"

Fair point, could be argued that any damage hasn't made a material difference.Originally posted by woohoo View PostI've seen some awful Tesco trolleys, some don't even go in a straight line. My suggestion would be to ignore it, I can't see Tesco coming after your wife for the repair costs.

Depends on how bad the damage is. Front, rear, bumper, wing? it also depends on how new the car is, if it's a £500 banger, then it adds to the character. Is it just a dent, or is there a crease?
Take it to a garage and ask.
