And it's true, I read it in his memoirs. Bob-isms are a legacy of colonial rule.

Hey! I told you that!Originally posted by TestMangler View PostNot sure if this is true or not, but I read somewhere that 'Please do the needful' was a phrase often used by Churchill (the war time PM, not the dearly departed CUK poster).

Can you provide updation if that happens ?Originally posted by ee61re View PostI had a non-bob client user use the phrase 'will revert back soon' in an email last week.
They have given the bobs their marching orders, so hopefully this silliness will stop.

Yes, sadly that one seems to have crept into everyday business speak. Have seen at least 3 managers at clientCo use it.Originally posted by ee61re View PostI had a non-bob client user use the phrase 'will revert back soon' in an email last week.

It was a Churchill but not the one you are thinking about. See Churchill Says he is not a politician by nature but was forced to be oneOriginally posted by TestMangler View PostNot sure if this is true or not, but I read somewhere that 'Please do the needful' was a phrase often used by Churchill (the war time PM, not the dearly departed CUK poster).

My favourite offshore moment came from an OCS, really early one morning.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostJust replied to the Indian offshore team, with the term 'Please do the needful' on a reply to a request.
Oh I feel smug.
I'd just logged on and a chat pops up.
Offshore Guy: Morning Mr TM. I've been awaiting your come to work.
Me: What can I do for you ?
Offshore Guy: Can I ask you a question ?
Me: Fire away.
Offshore guy: That is rude :-( I'll ask later when you have more time.
End of conversation

Hehe!Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostJust replied to the Indian offshore team, with the term 'Please do the needful' on a reply to a request.

Some time work a simile into some email to them, and include the phrase "so to speak".
I bet you'll find that in no time half of them are using it in every other sentence.
(Another good trigger phrase is "until and unless" instead of "if".)
