    It's a bit of a faff, you have to contact the UK Embassy in Washington and they try to get you on a tour.

    The museums along the Mall are great, all free too. You should just catch the start of the Cherry Blossom, although you'll likely miss the peak. It's definitely worth visiting the tidal basin during this period, although it does get crowded. For food/drinking, check out Georgetown. For awesome beer, check out the Dogfish Head brewery in Milton, Delaware (some travel). If you're into cycling, rent a bike and check out the Capital Crescent Trail (head out towards Great Falls, which is worth a trip too).

    Off to Washington DC (actually Falls Church) on Wednesday for the start of a new contract (project no.1) for 10 days but have the weekend free to do a spot of sightseeing. I've seen a few places of interest on t'interweb such as the various Smithsonian institutes and the spy museum and presumably the people I'm working with will give me some ideas. However, I suspect that some people here have been and might have some good tips, so fire away....
