I'm a gin martini drinker mostly these days and I go heavy on the vermouth.

I start with a base of 4/1 Hendricks/Noilly then add either 1 St Germain or 1 Aperol with orange bitters. Trick is not to over shake otherwise it all gets too diluted. I freeze all my martini glasses first.

    What Vodka do you use?
    Mostly a vodka martini gal.

I use Snow Leopard vodka for martinis or Grey goose, I prefer Chase, but you can't get it over here.

    I stir rather than shake.

I do love a Negroni, I use 1/3 Campari, 1/3 Martini Rosso and 1/3 Hendricks. Served with a slice of burnt orange peel and some fat ice cubes.

I also love El Presidentes - 2 Havana Club three year old, 1 triple sec and 1 Noilly Prat with the tiniest dash of Grenadine. And Aviations; Aviation gin, lemon juice, Creme de Violette and not too much Maraschino to taste,

I definitely agree with you about cheap spirits.

I've not got the Difford's Guide but from this list I've got 5, 6, 14 and 15. I like mixing to the original 20's and 30's recipes.
It's your fault I bought the diffords guide!

Also HyperD is responsible for my current obsession with porn star martinis. Normally for negroni the recipe is traditionally 30/30/30, but if you use bold genever it's maltier than normal gin so you don't require as much.

My absolute favourite though is the classic with a tartini coming second.
