In student job days there was a gang of asbestos insulators on site.Originally posted by EternalOptimist View PostI was on a gig at Dartford, bumped into a load of contractors who cleaned out vessels of contaminents.
They told me (with a certain amount of glee) about the dangers and the spacesuits they had to wear. We got on well because we were from the same town
Got a repeat gig a year later and bumped into them again, except there were two less
They earned fantastic money for that time.
I just hope they managed to live long enough to enjoy it 'cos they were a decent bunch of lads.

Ignorance on her part.Originally posted by Cliphead View PostThe blow into a tube thing came back with a good result. The nurse says 'you're obviously not a smoker or you'd be on the floor by the third attempt'. I didn't have the heart to tell her about the forty a day habit

Don't worry about it. If you work where I think you work, most contractors have to go through a lot of the same hoops!

And a drugs test before I was offered the job. Nothing to do with what I do but the site has very dangerous chemicals and gasses as well as sources of radiation so occupational health stuff is compulsory.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostMedical?
What the hell do you do to have to have a medical?
Occasionally I get sealed in protective gear from head to toe before visiting certain areas of the site to look at standalone Unix boxes. fascinating place to work.
