Berlin and Amsterdam are probably good places to start, and both within a short trip from the UK. Apparently Rio is good for that too, but it's a long way to go for a walk on the wild side.

Seems trainspotting is an older hobby than previously thought

A new record of trainspotting has been discovered from 1861, 80 years earlier than the hobby was first thought to have begun.

The National Railway Museum found a reference to a 14 year old girl writing down the numbers of engines heading in and out of Paddington Station ...

Cutting edge stuff when most kids and nerds with nothing better to do were still hanging about outside coaching inns stagecoachspotting
