So the circle is complete. Politicians are self serving, saying what they please to get them in power. But a referendum does not come about very often.

People have to vote for the lesser of the two evils. Consider that and the fog clears away quite quickly.

I don't, only people who live in Scotland do. Isn't that where we came in (more English people favour Scottish independence than do Scottish people)?

I think it's just normal human reaction to the question.

Who would actually vote for something that makes them worse off?

I'm sure if you put the question to English voters with, say UKIP v Tories, that one would make you better off and the other would make you worse off then most would vote to be better off.

However, let's then be honest about the actual issue under debate and acknowledge the assertion that for a significant portion of Scots, the whole business is purely about financial gain and that all this guff about the principle of self determination is just that, guff.

    It's only about the money.

Better off +9%, worse off -25%. Hmmm, yes, there might be something in that.

Maybe the nationalist moaners are doing their countrymen a disservice then? Although nationalist zeal and the principle of self-determination undoubtedly motivates a portion of the Scots surveyed, possibly those wealthier ones or those less concerned about potential hardship, they would be happy to inflict that financial hardship on the more ambivalent but less well off.

    One to ponder.
