OK design student time. why doesn't their lecturer point out the stupidity of their designs or pitch?

The umbrella is cool. The spring loaded mop and swinging the head around seems a little silly.
interesting both of the winners seem to have English as a second language, do we not have any native bright students? Or are we picking clever students from abroad for some reason?
