Mostly it's designed to catch out anybody stupid enough to tell porkies on their CV.

If the agency/client are unable to screen you, then I'd imagine the process probably won't progress very far.
The clue is in the title... Pre-Employment - Pre-Engagement Screening... They are not the same thing.

I have no issue with an appropriate pre-engagement check.

Being asked to complete a pre-employment form, when I am already employed and not being employed by the client, I take issue with.

Thanks for the advice - will have a look through the template contract and see what it says about a B2B relationship and then go back to them.

started a topic Pre Employment application form

    Pre Employment application form

I've not contracted for a few years now, so not sure if this is standard practice or not - here goes ...

Recently approached by a consultancy firm who are providing services to a financial institution. They need particular knowledge/expertise for a migration and it just so happens I have that !

Usual stuff - had a few phone calls with consultancy firm to discuss engagement.
Had a phone call with the end client, went well.
Further call with consultancy firm - "discuss" rate, etc.
"Admin" stuff at end client is holding up finalizing the contract.

So, in the meantime the consultancy firm send over their template contract for me to peruse.

And also an "Application form for Employment" - it's this bit I'm concerned with. Is this normal - I had a look and it's a standard pre-employment application - fill in things like:
    • Full personal details
    • Position applied for/Hiring manager
    • Academic history
    • Employment history - 5 years
    • Periods of unemployment
    • Character references

It's also wording like "... no contact will be made with my current employer until I've resigned my current position..."

I know the engaging firm (typically agency) has to do checks, but it's the focus on employment application that has alarm bells ringing.

The role is now advertised publicly on jobserve with a number of agencies, so perhaps I have options if this is a no-go.

Working...
