No A1, no job
I have recently set up a new ltd company in the UK and have found work in Austria as an IT consultant. This is on a rolling 3 month contract basis. The company I work for is requesting an HMRC A1 form as a pre-requisite for working beyond 6 months in Austria.
HMRC have told me that I am not eligible for the A1 because I have just set up my company, and not traded in the UK for at least 2 months prior to starting this job (according to CA3821 form). This is true - I contracted previously under another company name but closed the company down 3 years ago when I took a permanent job.
So as things stand I will only be able to work in Austria for 6 months, unless I get my A1 form.
I was wondering if it is possible to avoid this problem by working under an umbrella company. In other words, I would need to apply for the A1 form under the name of umbrella company rather than my own Ltd company name. Is this something that could be done?
I spoke to Parasol and Giant and neither were willing to do this as they only support overseas assignments less than 6 months in duration.
So I'm a bit stuck. Can anyone offer advice?
Thanks
