Is it a bad idea to list my limited company as employer on CV ?

I then put clients/projects under my main 'employment' which is my limited company.

Seemed to confuse the hell out of some numpty recruiters.

Actually it has proved a good thing in my case because;

a) I get to spot the numpties who are more likely to offer the lowest rate.
b) My Ltd.Co. is a legal entity so it qualifies to give me a references as it is my current employer. (I love this one).
c) My CV shows continuous employment even between major contracts. (Can be important).

Whatever works for you best really.

That's what I have on my cv. Mind, its a good laugh when agents go 'Did you know <insert name> at MyCo when you worked at ABC Client?'

WHS. As I was also a consultant before contracting i would put the name of the consultancy then a list of clients. Same with clientco. As I've done so many clients now i have a master CV which runs to be about 7 pages. I then crop that accordingly to the role, skillset and industry vertical utilising a summary at the top of the page.

I avoided the "first time contractor" low rate because my CV just lists who I worked for, and before my first contract, I had a couple of permie jobs lasting less than a year.

Just say who you were doing the work for/with. Questions of whether they were your employer or client are irrelevant. As a CV reader, I want to know what you did.

You need a CV for every opportunity.

So have one like that and one which just lists clients.

If the stupid recruiters can't work it out then send them one of your alternative CVs.
