IMHO now is prob not the best time to start contracting.

There are far too many experienced, knowledgeable contractors floating around after all the recent cuts for a client not to take one of those rather than a newbie contractor.

Having said that if you are up for a low rate they may be interested, it's all about saving money you see.

How many roles did the agent send your CV out for? I've had six sent out in the last few of weeks and only got one interview.

I wouldn't relie on the agent calling you back either. Apply for a job and then follow up with a phone call you might get a few more hits.

One of your main problems is that you have never had a contract.

This means you are going to have to do more than just upload your CV to job portals and contact agencies.

You need to network with the people you know and companies you have worked with before to see if they want a contractor. Also put yourself on linkedin.

Oh and contracts can take from 1 hour to much longer to win.

New to contracting...

Hi Folks,

I am new to the world of contracting and have just started to look out for contracts. But unfortunately the response has been bad to say the least.
