Because the agent is working in a professional capacity and is representing his agency. This forum has enough visibility on google searches to come up (sometimes) near the top when you search for agencies - and why shouldn't instances like this come out to the world?

If he isn't acting professionally then it isn't representing his agency, it is him being a lose cannon. Naming and shaming on the web can be a risky thing to do nowadays. We have had a couple of examples of people doing this in the past and in every case the poster has had his ass handed to him very publically on the forums.

I also just think it is unfair on the rest of the hard working guys. I am a contractor and embarrased to be lumped in with some of the morons that post on here so don't see why I should be tarred by their inabilitly to act professionally.

If one agent has messed you about put it down to experience IMO. Have you written to his management to actually get something done about it? I didn't think so.

If they have not put his CV forward, but told him that they have, then they have lied in order to prevent him from getting the contract. That's what they have done wrong.

Welcome to the world of agents. Nothing is going to fix that.

All in my personal opinon of course. If you want to shout it from the rafters then do as you wish. I would just respect you more if you didn't bother.

buddy you are dealing with recruitment agencies, being shafted by them one way or another is part of the game. you wonder why companies even bother using them considering a perm position can easily be 15-20% of gross salary...

But people are lazy and would rather pay 15-20% comission on gross salary than spend a week or 2 sifting through CV's and holding a few interviews.

Thanks for all the responses... a truly sad state of affairs!!

Firstly I will name the agency and consultant if it turns out to be true. However, as mentioned, it could be agency B just trying I have received proof (a screenshot of submission form) from agency 1 however, sadly I am now never convinced.

I like the idea of 48 hours and if no interview submit through the others. I am also VERY tempted to call up the company, speak to HR and see if I have been submitted and thereby withdraw from consideration for the role.

Do we have a list of agencies that have/do do this sort of thing? If agency 1 is on the list, I will withdraw the app with them and apply via agency 2.

The only thing that makes me nervous about this is that you have to trust the word of Agent B. Is he really going to say yes when he has the chance of putting you forward and getting the commission for himself with little risk to himself but great fall out for you?

I get this often. I always say "please represent me subject to my CV being submitted".

So what do you do if agent A says he's submitted your CV yet you hear nothing? Meanwhile you are unsure as to whether you should go via agent B?

We have this question regularly and opinion seems divided. Some people say get all three agents to apply for you and deal with the fall out if you get sent in twice later. I can see why people might think this but....

Getting all three to put you forward may increase your chances slightly but when they find out and a war over who put you forward starts the chances of getting binned by the client far outweigh the benefits of multi applying.

You are likely (and it happened to me) get binned by the client before you even see him even if you are the right man for the job. He uses agents for an easy life. He does not want to mediate between two seething agents just for a contractor.

Try what Kingcook says but don't try and play the agents off. It will work out badly for you.

Try to get confirmation in an email that each agent has in fact submitted you.
