To the OP...

What have you done about getting paid?? Have you set up an Umbrella? Do you have a LTD co set up? You can't just apply for a contract and just turn up. Have you made the agent aware of your sitaution and that you have nothing setup? If you haven't it is highly likely they will just drop you like a stone.

I do have to ask if you really think you are allowed to turn down a contract just because you don't fancy it? Would your phone provider, loan provider been happy with this? Think about it. With you being new the agents will go to town on you and threaten you with legal action, losses amounting up to the full cost of the contract and so on. You cannot dick people/contracts around with no comeback... Later on when this happens we will tell you not to worry about it as they will not follow their threats through but it is still a very uncomfortable place to be in.

Do as Antman says, read the guides, understand what contract is before you get in to it. Pick a contract and stick to it. A verbal agreement is binding in law. There are ways out here but far too complicated to go in to now.

as no one has replied, but managed to avoid that contract couple of days before by informing them.

This is my frist thread here, I was made redundant recently and was looking for any work and also for contract work.
i have been in discussions with two companies, both had delays and going quite for some time and then last week both turned up and wanted me to start in a weeks time. A wasnt sure about the rate and was aware that i have another offer from B, in the mean time i said yes to B and process of conracts started, B generated and send the contract to my umbrella company, I instructed umb to wait for my confirmation. Now A came back to me which is also preffered by me as employer and the work. I havent signed any thing with B but did receive the contract from them. Can I say no to B just a day before the contract start day? looks bad i know, but i thought its better not to start the contract instead of join and giving them 2 weeks notice.

please advise
