IT contracts in UAE and Saudi ?

Was offered permie role in Doha last year but turned it down on the rate. The german recruitment bloke was astonished that I couldn't live on equivalent £70k tax free a year. When you added up cost of accommodation, car, insurance etc (plus keeping the UK home going for a year, until the missus and last daughter came out), I was considerably richer on £400 a day down south.

Oh....and I would have been working with Bobs.

spoke to the pimp last week, rates are still in the vicinity of £400 a day, which puts it outside the acceptable risk margin to cover moving the whole family to the sandpit, will wait if more senior roles come along or they realise they want to pay for experience/and offer relocation/assistance.

Only ever managed 1 interview with Etihad @ £400/day + accommodation (back in 2011). While that is not amazing, it does work out well if you can stay out a while. A couple of years tax free with accommodation and you are laughing.

forgive me for bumping this, been away from cuk for few years, I'd very much appreciate the skinny on Dubai from a contracting perspective, gotcha's and the like, and In return I'll spill whatever beans I have about , Sydney, Hong kong and Adelaide, Australia in general well I'll just answer questions with reckless honesty............

If you are working as a contractor then be careful when renting accommodation. Most will want you to pay over three or four cheques (if you are renting for one year) and by law, you are not allowed to bounce a cheque (you will be deported). So, if your contract comes to an end then you are pretty stuck unless you can
1) Negotiate with your landlord that in the event you are out of work you can rip-up the outstanding cheque(s), or
2) Find someone else to take over the rental.

As contractors at Emirates, we were given very basic health care through the agent so you may want to take out your own personal health care.

If you bounce a cheque you wont get deported you will get nicked, simple as that and held in jail and your passport taken from you until such time it is paid off.

Make sure you can, and will respect local customs and laws. No getting drunk, snogging, skinny dipping and nailing the locals on the beach at night. And make sure you like heat. It gets very hot in peak periods.
