    Comprehensive car insurance with a large excess is cheaper than 3rd party, fire and theft. Simply because insurers think that if you go for 3rd party, fire and theft you are careless.

    Oh and you must be under 25 living in a city for your insurance to be that high.

    I would stick my neck out and say it will make little difference. There are two major factors in play with your insurance, one is what risk you are as a driver, what you do for a job makes little difference if you are in a high risk catagory/area. Also the culture of compensation claims has in large been responsible for the huge hike in premiums so again your job will have no impact on that.

    I always try putting down "Employed" (because I'm employed by my LTD) better than "Self Employed" though often it makes no difference so I just go with Self Employed. I would say that your high insurance premium is down to other factors, as you are probably well aware.
