Even though you've got the contact direct, check with them to see whether the agency have put some kind of "he has to go through us for evermore" handcuff clause in the agency-client contract.

Nuclear Contractor I knew.....
Not bad (3 Years!)...A colleague of mine told me a story of a NUclear Engineer who has contracted as a "Consultant" for 15Yrs!!!!!
