if desperate accept the lower rate but with a weeks notice your side so you can still look and up sticks quickly when you find something more reasonable

I was applying around a month before contract end date but that was period just before xmas. What I mean is that I don't even expect to go back anymore...Should have started assuming that somewhere around a month before the end of your contract IMO...
Fingers crossed something comes up soon

Bench vs a Pay drop ? I know the two I would go for right now and it isn't the bench... Going to be a tough year probably...Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostAgency still messing me around.

Oh dear, I presume you had good reasons to do that but you will probably find that you have a pretty nasty restriction on you going direct with the client or even switching agencies then.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostOpted out.
They tried to put a 12 month restriction in my contract but I refused to opt-out so they had to strike it out.

You are kidding aren't you? I would seriously think hard before trying this.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostDone exactly that.
Waiting for response. I am considering cutting out middle man completely by refusing whatever the agency offer. Afterwards will see if clientco want to go direct.
You turn the agent down. Later you speak to the client to see if you can go direct and he says no can do and anyway the agent got us another guy to fill your spot. Nice knowing you...
Way to go.
And this seriously thinking about not taking the contract because you are being messed about a bit... You wanting a long stint on the bench or something. Wish I could afford to be so precious.Last edited by northernladuk; 17 January 2011, 16:35.

From that can we take it it was the client who is trying to drop the rate?
Presumably you can't just drop the agency as you will likely have some kind of period in your contract that says you cannot do that.

Done exactly that.Speak to the client, find out if it is them driving the rate cut.

Where is the pressure coming from. Is the client looking for a reduction or is the agency trying to increase it's margin. You need to know that first.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostAgency messing me around again. After confirming rate would stay on Friday got another call from his boss today asking what I would accept. Really peed off and considering not going back at all.
