IR35 issue?

Why do you want to become a contractor?
I want to work for myself and plan my time a bit better. I am also tired of all the company politics and bs.


The reason why I think £500pd is fair is that they charge £1000-£1200 pd for my services to other clients.
Since I joined them (3 years ago) I have been able to invoice 95% of my time for that rate so I think it is fair that I get a chunk of that..

I am in a permie position at the moment which pays 47k.
I want to become a contractor and I have been offered a few contract positions (300-350) recently.

However, I know my company wants me to stay to complete important projects etc so I am now consider to make them an offer.

I might propose to them that I will stay for another year if they hire me as a contractor instead, paying £500 per day.
That would give them plenty of time to find someone with my background who can replace me.
For me it would mean that I would have a initial 12 month contract with a good rate that would help me get everything rolling (starting up the company, build up war chest etc).. And for that rate I am happy to stay another year before moving on..

Is it anything I can do to stay outside IR35 (doubt it)?
Anything else I should think about?

I think there is a chance they will fire you, they will see you as trying to screw them over. If you want to go contracting, just do it.

There is being in a position of leverage and there is taking the piss. No one is invaluable in a project and everyone has a limit of worth. from 47k to £500 a day is pushing it. You are giving them the option of you being too expensive to be viable with that rate IMO

£500 pd is £115k at 46 weeks/year.

No you can't stay out of IR35. IR35 was intended for people like you.

Why don't you ask for a wage increase and extra paid holiday if you wish to stay at the same company?

Then save the wage increase whilst you finish the projects up. That way when you do jump you have a cushion.

Remember as a contractor the company can get rid of you when they feel like and you don't have any paid holiday/paid sick pay.
