Contract end date

Not quite seeing the problem here. The approval delay is certainly not out of the ordinary, especially coming up to year end and in the current down turn. You would, of course, expect them to have sorted this out first, but, it isn't uncommon for this to happen.

Who knows why they change the dates but it is the clients perogative and I don't see what the worth in worrying about it is. There could be a whole host of reasons. The money might not last. The project might come to an end, it might be a mile stone at the clients (sales cycles, financial dates etc).

At the end of the day your contract is for what the client wants to give you. If he knocks it from 6 months to two weeks without explaination then so be it.



This means absolutely sqaut and nothing more than lip service. Ignore it. The agent is at the mercy of the client co and his politics as you are. If he was any kind of decent agent he would do this anyway. Take no notice.

Sounds pretty par for the course to be honest.

I'd forget about the 'missing' 6 weeks though. You wont see any of this money no matter what the agent says. IMO he's soft soaping you as he knows its what you want to hear.

Unique situation- 6 month Contract won 2 months ago, role put on hold as Agency says its 'awaiting approval', it takes 6 weeks for end client to approve role! . Finally contract offered. Contract offered for 4.5 months instead of original 6 months. Agency says even though the start date has changed the end date remains the same as procurement dates cant be changed by clientco. However Agency gives assurance that when the end date nears 'we will push for the elasped 6 weeks/full tenure and get it'. We dont understand if its 6 month contract why cant they change the dates ? Bizzare!.

A certain teleco I've just encountered works like that. They work in 3 month blocks. Happily for me the next one starts in April when I should be joining them. Why not sign, do the 4.5 months and then fingers crossed for a 6 month extension?

Project has a milestone to hit. That milestone has not moved, despite you being such an important cog in their machine that your absence has not been missed for six weeks.

Is it any different from offering you a 6 month contract and terminating it 6 weeks early - would that make you feel any better? Take the contract that is being offered, or don't - it's your decision. They are the customer - they make the resourcing decisions.

These days clients are taking longer over sorting out contracts and often put gig adverts out before even getting sign off.

If you want the gig then take it.
