I worked in a royal mail call centre. Lots of complaints about re-directions. It really depends on your delivery staff/how much time they have.
Otherwise there can be mix-ups, etc as others say.
It's not going to show on your credit report (as far as I know) but it's likely it could start late, go missing. Certain things won't get re-directed as well (can't remember what exactly.. probably benefit letters, which doesn't matter if you're working anyway).
I would only do as a back-up, anything urgent/vital I'd go back and check, make sure sent to you somewhere else.

I think it means that they store them up to two weeks for collection, not limited to two weeks service. I have used the service a lot particularly when I know that I must be in a particular part of the country but I don’t know where I will be staying.
I have used the service for more than six months without problems.

Royal mail Post Restante quote:
"
* pick up your mail from Post Office® branches in the UK and abroad
* have mail from the UK stored for two weeks and mail from abroad stored for 1 month"
Wow a WHOLE 2 weeks UK mail retention from Royal Mail, I'm looking for this service as may be moving abroad soon and what a rubbish service I was wanting something like 6 months Post Restance !! oh well, welcome to Britain.
P.O. Boxes are a better option I think when stuff won't fit through the letter box or you live in a block of flats and don't trust the neighbours.

When working away or travelling you can use “post restante” service whereby you get mail addressed to a post office of your convenience (this also works in Europe). There is no charge for this service, but these days some thick people in privatised post offices don’t know the service exists. Any problem phone customer services and they will sort it out

thanks for the info ! I didnt know about "Poste Restante" ! it sounds like a useful option! but I guess I still have to go for the royal mail redirection because some of the companies only post items to the same address as which my credit/debit card is registered! I might also recieve unexpected items which is impossible to redirect them through "Poste Restante"!
thanks for all of the tips! at least I better understand the quality of their service!

I've got a redirection going on right now, to Oz.
Its currently working well but was a nightmare intially. So much so that after about my 4th letter of complaint they refunded the 70 odd quid it cost. Each time they promised they'd put measures in place, it has been escalated, blalh blah but still they continued to cock up.
They initially sent me a bunch of (British!) stamps as compensation. WTF am I supposed to do with them!

Erm, maybe I struck lucky but the last two redirections I did in the last few years were pretty darn good. I didn't rely purely on them and put the steps in that have been mentioned as well for the odd piece that got sent to the old one address which did happen a few times but all in wasn't as bad an experiece as it seems other people had.

Royal Mail redirected my mail from a random address which I never lived at. They took four weeks to set this 'service' up and five more weeks to fix it.
Luck would have it they went on strike, so I didn't get any wrong mail misdirected from the wrong address. I didn't get any post either.

My advice is find another way.
The past two redirects that I have paid for turned out to be a complete waste of money. The PO are completely incapable of providing a reliable redirection service in my experience.

royal mail's mail redirection & credit report
Hi Guys,
I am due to start a new contract in Bristol, the question is if I set Royal mail redirection for my mails to be forwarded to my new temporary address (I be there for 6 -12 months). Will it show up on my credit report? I like to use my permanent address for post and contracts paperwork just to keep everything simple and straight forward!
