Yes..I was about to mention the same. This Maidenhead (office in Newport/Wales too) based Telco equip vendor is doing the same for last 3-4 years NINO & DOB needed. Its for pimps to upload CV to their recruitment portal. You need not give correct NINO, if you haven't given previously.

The Preferred Supplier (who wasnt even my agency!) at my last client wanted my NI number but I wouldnt give it to them. Told them they didnt need it.

Their reasons are nonsense. They could just give you a reference code if it is for ID/proof agent has spoken to you purposes. NI numbers are also handy for working out somebody's age - could you play the possible age discrimination card here?

That's DVLA driver numbers I think!

Was I was in Accountancy doing payroll and someone had no NINO we'd use the then accepted format, TN, date of birth, sex, ie TN01011970F TN being temporary number, F for, oooh err, Female.....

Not supposed to be allowed now but so many still use the old system...

Generally only if you are between 16-18 as you don't tend to have other ID apart from your birth certificate.

Just change the last few digits on your NI number. Lots of people get theirs wrong by mistake.

Duh!

If you want to pretend to be someone else i.e. steal someone's id then having their NI number helps.

Also if you ever have to claim benefits or even get your pension if someone has been using your NI number to do the same, then you are going to have to fight to claim what you are entitled to.

You could always make one up. If they ever find out, then you've proof that they're abusing the system

You could always make one up. If all they need it for is to uniquely identify you, that will most probably work. If they ever find out, then you've proof that they're abusing the system somehow as they really have no need to know.

The Job Centre were adamant to me the other day that one should protect one's NI number very carefully. As supposed specialists in benefit fraud, it is possible they might even know what they are talking about.

Which is why you have to put it on every permie job application. Including those through agencies.

Anyway, there is no reason on earth why an agency should need a LtdCo contractor's NI number. Their chosen process is a bad one.

I suspect they have really done it that way as a way of stopping people who need visas from applying.
