Yes, but when the Live CD doesn't work, the alternate CD doesn't work, and my posts asking for help on this forum and the Ubuntu forum get no replies, I can't help but wonder if the problem isn't me.
Seriously, there are Win32 and Win64 binaries for MySQL on their web site. It really is easy. A good book is Learning SQL by Alan Beaulieu. I've got the 1st Edn and it takes you through setting up MySQL and as well as the ANSI SQL language in general.
oh thx, yes I've seen that one on the gulp website. I'm considering applying.
Okay (don't know why they sent me a mail as I don't have any of what they want but they are just down the road from me) although have you checked out their website: www.csa.de, and have a look at a powerpoint demo they have on there for their products, really rather amusing...
Just got one sent to me to start end of this year/begin of next year in Frankfurt running probably until end of 2013 in telecommunications, some specs are:
Mindestens 5 Jahre Unix und/oder Linux Praxiserfahrung (z.B. AIX)
Systemnahe Softwareentwicklung in C++ (langjährige Erfahrung, Expert Level Skills mit mindestens 5 Jahren Praxiserfahrung),
C (Grundkenntnisse) unter Unix/Linux
How's the C++ market, I'm up for renewal at the end of the year. Seems to be the odd opportunity in Germany, what about the UK? Do those banking jobs have huge queues of applicants?

There seem to be all the usual daily IB jobs on Jobserve, exactly the same as before the recession. In the real world, there seem to be quite a few that want either MS SQL, Oracle, or Linux kernel knowledge, which counts me out on all three.
Oracle download. Free.
Linux download. Free.
MS SQL. Don't know, but shouldn't be that hard to get your hands on a copy.

Be wary of 'jobs' advertised by agents. Many of those jobs don't actually exist and agents are just fishing for CVs to put in front of potential employers.
You'll be fine: plenty of IB c/c++ roles around, paying anywhere from 500-600.
There are plenty being advertised. I am up for about 20 of them at the moment. None of them appear to be moving. Apparently there are alot awaiting for HR approval. I hope they start moving soon.
