Bummer, sorry to hear that.
If it was me, I would ask the client why they are terminating you bearing in mind the good feedback they have given.
Obviously, you need to do this in a nice way and play dumb in that not tying the conversation into their recent request for you to go permie.
You'll also, potentially, be able to find out if they have recruited a permie to replace you.
If not, then surely they need you on board until they find one.
BTW, what type of work is it?

Brief story
Started a contract 12 working days ago, everything going great, good feed back, on day 10 the business asked if I would go premy, I said no in a nice way explaining, day 12 they have given me 1 week notice, looks like I've been on trial here, great feedback, then offered job, said no, sacked.....
Left a good contract at the FCO for this and they waited for my notice period too, stitched up like a kipper
