Large Government Projects

I have noticed that there are some big government projects out there e.g.

MOD, NHS, Courts, IR, DWP, DoE etc.

Just wondering at what stage they are at; e.g. are they likely to ramp up soon or have they reached a stage of maturity in terms of numbers of contractors required?

Curious to know which projects are likely to expand.

Any inside views?

I worked on an EDS-lead project for the IR 4 years ago and I don't think that has gone live yet!

I'm finishing a contract on a Government project next week. I never understood before how Government projects could fail until I had worked on one!

I've been working on non-Document management stuff, can't really say what, but it wasn't EDS/Accenture acting as SI. The project is for the Department of Transport, and there will be probably be much much more work to come...

Most of these have a very large element of Document Management in them. If yuo haven't already got this skillset the preferred supplier agencies aren't going to touch you with a bargepole.

Given that the market place for these skills is tiny, the agents pretty much know who is qualified and who isn't before they even place the ads...

Any project not in these arenas though should be easy enough to get on to. Phone the main SI usually Accenture or EDS and ask to speak to their recruiting manager who will happily supply you the list of preferred agencies

Large Government Projects

DoE / DEFRA (Guildford) / RPA (Reading)
Hardware purchased about 18 - 12 months ago (Sun). Stable and setup - IBM maintaining. Software (Accenture) alreading started to go live.

HNS (Leeds) Been running for about 8 - 12 months. No further info.
