    I know several Southern Africans (different countries) who have Clearance, I'm not sure how long they've been resident in the UK though.

    It's true. As a non-resident British citizen, I can't get clearance. But I can get clearance to work for the Swiss army...

    It's possible.

    There are some documents that have the category "UK Eyes Only" and you can never get to see those, but this rule is policed locally, it's not a reason that stops you getting clearance.

    However, in the current market "must be prepared to undergo clearance" is code for "must already be cleared".

    True, most are "require" but occasionally there's a "pass". Maybe they're just typos. Or agents trying to dodge the rules...

    Still with £100b of mis-managed govt IT projects in the pipeline the existing pool of SC holders is bound to run out sooner or later.

    Where do you see those? I've only seen "need to have SC".

    It is possible but takes a long time due to the DVA requiring information from your home government. I've seen SC for people with dual nationalities take upto and over 18 months.
