I live in East Lancashire and was told by an agent they had put my CV, which they found on Monster, forward for an interview without first telling me.
According to the Agent, the client was very close to my home town and within "easy commuting distance." Turns out it was on the Scottish border!!!!
The other alternate I suppose is to find your own clients. I'm working with one contractor who rarely uses agents but instead networks widely and finds his own.
